About Us

Vision

Positive Tomorrows is a sanctuary of hope; educating homeless children and their families for life.

Mission

Within 5 years, Positive Tomorrows will be a fully-funded regionally-accredited school with the staff and facilities to provide homeless children, preschool through twelfth grade with a well rounded education as well as life skills programs for their families

About the School

Positive Tomorrows is a private, tuition free school for Oklahoma City homeless children, Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Our students’ families live in homeless shelters, motels, or with friends or relatives.  Sometimes, they lack even that much stability and live cars or bounce around from couch to couch each night.  The dynamics of being homeless cause these children to fall behind their peers by 1 or 2 grade levels, academically and socially.  Because they are behind, they need individualized attention and special services to catch up to their peers and be ready for longterm success when they transition to a public school.

Positive Tomorrows is more than an elementary school.  Our teachers are dedicated to this mission and never hold the baggage of being homeless against them.  When hygiene, sleep or behavioral issues arise, we find ways to address them in an understanding and sensitive manner.  If our students do not have clothes that fit, we can take them immediately to our clothing room where they receive clothing, new socks, underwear and a pair of shoes.  We nurture them academically, socially and emotionally, so that they can learn what it means to be in school and engage in their education.  As they learn to read, they learn how to be a successful student.  As they learn math, they learn how to be a successful citizen.  It is the smaller things that make so much difference in their lives.

Positive Tomorrows understands that teaching the children is not the only way to improve their lives.  Our Family Support Services ensures the family unit as a whole has food, clothing, personal care items and support.  Our Social Workers provide education, resources and support to homeless families.  They help families find housing, learn to read, find jobs and get back on track.  Our School Counselor provides the students counseling and will bring the entire family in for family support when necessary.  The Transporation Coordinator works to ensure all of our children are in school and arrive safely.

The services we provide are completely supported through private contributions.  We are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization operated by a volunteer Board of Directors , 15 staff members and an army of volunteers all dedicated to providing hope for homeless children and their families.
